True leadership is not accidental, it is intentional. In other words, while one might fall into a leadership role by virtue of circumstances, to be true leader one must recognize that he/she is now responsible for a team of people. The most effective leaders have a burning passion and drive that translates into action,yet they never forget that behind them, there will always be strong support – a strong team. AllaVolodina (York University) outlines below a suggested course outline for a course covering Leadership with Passion.

To start

-          In advance of the workshop, participants will be asked to complete the Leadership Character Insight Assessment (LCIA) ©. The results will be used to direct discussion and the development ofparticipants’ leadership styles over the course of the workshop

Managing vs Leading

-          Differentiating between the role of a manager and the role of a leader

-          Informal vs formal leadership

-          The attributes and values of a successful leader

-          Emotional Intelligence – Moving beyond mere theory and bringing it into action

-          Taking Stock: This exercise will prompt participants to compare between the attributes and values discussed above and their current inventory of attributes; actionable steps will be outlined

Coaching and Feedback

-          Negative vs positive reinforcement, including the main principles and advantages of positive reinforcement

-          Practical examples of positive reinforcement applied at all organizational levels

-          Performance reviews: Asking the right questions in a performance meeting

-          Effective feedback techniques

-          Scenario in Action: Participants will analyze a real-life based case and encouraged to applythe techniques described above 

Building a Productivity-Oriented Team Culture

-          Win-win situation: Understanding the unlimited power of a positive work environment

-          Lose-lose situation: Facing the impact of stress on the work environment

-          The forgotten art of cultivating a positive work environment

-          Building positive habits – good habits are life-changing and workplace transforming

-          Taking Stock: This exercise will involve participants answering some tough questions on their current practices and developing actionable steps for improvement
