The following course outline is suggested for a training session titled Beyond the Basics – Accounting and Finance by an accounting instructor at York University, AllaVolodina

  • Understanding corporate governance and management-related risks and how to spot red flags while interviewing prospective clients
  • Understanding and assessing financial and operating risks pertaining to a project (including assessing the potential collaborators and their project history, planned vs actual completion and budgets)
  • Understanding differences between Capital and Operating components
  • Calculation and critical assessment of administration fees and their components
  • Determining financial viability: ratio analysis (including but not limited to Return-on-Assets, Return-on-Equity, Working Capital Ratio, Current Ratio, Debt-to-equity ratio) and potential red flags
  • Understanding sources of funding and leverage (debt financing vs equity financing); definition of equity as it relates to equity program requirements
